Story Lead

Sekimizu is a significant player in the adoption of amendments to the 1978 International Convention on the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) for seafarers. Of equal importance are his support of various Philippine initiatives in enhancing the safety and security of ships and the welfare of approximately 400,000 Filipino seafarers.

Sekimizu pays a courtesy call to Malacañan and is received by Del Rosario and Department of Transportation and Communications Sec. Joseph Emilio Aguinado Abaya. With the IMO chief are MARINA administrator Dr. Maximo Q Mejia Jr and DFA Assistant Secretary for Maritime and Ocean Affairs Benito Valeriano.

The Order of Sikatuna is one of the senior honors of the Philippine Republic. The others are the Philippine Legion of Honor and the Order of Lakandula.
